The cursor mode button in the
main toolbar allows us to choose the mouse cursor's command mode in visual
windows such as map, drawing, image, labels, or layout windows. The
cursor mode button appears when the focus is on an open window that is
a visual window. It does not appear when the focus is on a
text window like a comments or table window.
The cursor mode button will offer cursor command modes based on the type of visual window that has the focus. The illustration above shows cursor command modes that are available for drawing and labels windows, and for map windows when a drawing or labels layer is the active layer.
Default mode is basic navigation mode. That is available for all visual windows.
The illustration above shows cursor command modes that are available for image windows, and for map windows when an image layer is the active layer. The Create Area, Create Line, and Create Point command modes that are available for drawings are disabled for images, since area, line, and point vector objects cannot be created in a raster image. Draw Path mode, which is used for measurements, is available for images, as are Edit Control Points, which is used for georegistration, and Snap Parameters, used for snapping.
Except for the Default navigation command mode, layout windows have completely different command mode choices for the mouse cursor.
